Have a page read aloud

You don't need an app or a download. Open the page you want to hear, then follow the steps for your device.

iPhone or iPad

In Safari, tap the page menu button at the left end of the address bar, then tap Listen to Page.

To hear anything on your screen, turn on Speak Screen: open Settings, then Accessibility, then Spoken Content. After that, swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers.

Android phone or tablet

In Chrome, tap the three-dot menu, then tap Listen to this page.

To hear anything on your screen, turn on Select to Speak in Settings, then Accessibility. Tap the Select to Speak button, then tap the text you want read.

Windows computer

In Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + U, or right-click the page and choose Read aloud.

Mac

In Safari, choose Edit in the menu bar, then Speech, then Start Speaking.

Chrome or Firefox on a computer

In Chrome, right-click the page, choose Open in reading mode, then press the play button.

In Firefox, open Reader View with the page icon in the address bar, then press the Read aloud (headphones) button.

Screen readers

This site is built to work with the screen readers people already use, including VoiceOver on iPhone, iPad and Mac, TalkBack on Android, and NVDA and JAWS on Windows. Every page has a “Skip to main content” link, headings and labeled sections to move between, and text descriptions of its images.

Bigger text

On a phone, spread two fingers apart on the screen to zoom in. On a computer, press Ctrl and + on Windows, or Command and + on a Mac. The pages rearrange to fit, so you won't have to scroll sideways.

Sample ballots and other PDFs

The sample ballots on this site are PDF files from the state, and a screen reader may not read them in the right order. The same races and questions are listed as regular text under What's on Your Ballot? on the Elections 2026 page.

We test this site with automated accessibility checks and fix what they find, but tests don't catch everything. If something here is hard to see, hear or use, email lwvnewportcounty@gmail.com and tell us which page. We'll work to fix it.
