League of Women Voters Rhode Island 2026 State Legislative Priorities

The League's advocacy for the 2026 session of the Rhode Island General Assembly will be guided by the following principles:

Voting Rights & Defending Democracy

LWVRI supports:

Equitable Education

All Rhode Island students deserve equitable, adequate school funding, regardless of district wealth. State funding for education should be at a level that ensures programs of comparable substance and quality are available to all, regardless of the wealth of the specific school district.

Climate & Environment

The League supports policies that address climate change, promote renewable energy, reduce fossil fuel dependence, and cut waste, while supporting economic prosperity.

Women's Reproductive Health and Health Care Equity

LWVRI advocates for affordable, accessible health care, with attention to maternal health disparities and reproductive freedom. The League also supports measures to protect children's safety and mental health, to include reducing gun violence.

Social Justice

The League of Women Voters is committed to promoting equity and justice for all people. We work to ensure that all voices are heard in the democratic process and that policies address systemic inequities in our communities.

Government Transparency

We believe that government should be open, accountable, and accessible to all citizens. The League advocates for stronger open meetings laws, public records access, and transparency in government decision-making at all levels.
